About Andrew Madonia

  Andrew has been on a journey since birth, and we are very blessed to be the parents of such an Amazing Boy.  Andrew’s name means Strong.  As you read throughout Praying For Andrew, you will see that Andrew always lives up to his name.

  Many may feel that Andrew has a received ”A Bad Hand” since birth, but he does not feel that way.  Andrew feels blessed to be on the journey that God has prepared for him. His current diagnoses include:

Mitochondrial Disease   -    Failure to Thrive   – Chromosome Duplication (5q23.3)   – Petit Mal Seizures   – Irregular Body Temperature   -   Weakened Immune System   – Asthma   -   Anorexia   – Dysphagia/Feeding Difficulties   – Laryngeal Penetration   -   GERD/Acid Reflux   – G-tube (Feeding Tube) -   Constipation   -   Hyperflexibility   – Hypotonia (Muscle Weakness)   -   Fatigability   -   Leg Misalignment   -   Minor Facial Paralysis   – SMO Orthopedic Shoes (For Fallen Foot Arches)   -   Eczema (Back)   – Delay in Fine and Gross Motor Skills   -   Sensory Issues   -   Benign Brain Cyst   – OCD/Other Psychological & Behavioral Problems

  No matter what Andrew’s struggle may be for the day, he is always SMILING.  Many have been knocked down, broken, and felt their world crumbling to pieces when facing difficult times.  Andrew experiences these things everyday but does not give up…He’s a True Fighter. 

  Through the help of Dr. Fran Kendall (www.virtualmdpractice.com), Andrew has been clinically diagnosed with Mitochondrial Disease.  He continues to be tested to determine the specific type(s) of “Mito.”  In the interim, Andrew’s care requires many preventative measures to slow down the progression of its damaging effects.
